Is there a specific street or part of Miami and South Beach where the people, culture, architecture, colors, etc. inspire you most?

Ocean Drive inspires me for its deco architecture and neon lights, but I think that Lincoln Road is where I am inspired most in Southbeach...you see every friend and neighbor passing by and it is inspirational too see so many people from all over the world with their different styles.

With influence from the Miami/South Beach culture, do you consider your designs to be an extension of Latin fashion or is Red Carter a completely new style?

Red Carter is a lifestyle...my goal is to show people what Miami is about and that is a mix of culture from around the globe...there are so many people that come here to vacation and live that it feels like a European town sometimes...I often forget that I am in the US.

When a woman puts on a Red Carter swimsuit, what dominating emotion do you hope stirs in her?

I want her to feel confident that she is wearing quality, and I want her to feel that the garment fits well. But I really want her to feel that what she has purchased will look great when she is getting her picture taken on vacation...I want my bikinis to be like the souvenirs of ones life...

What inspired the idea of putting a red button on the back of your swimwear?

I wanted to let the customer know that I had touched every suit myself...

How would you select a swimsuit for your best client?

I would first look at her body and determined what shape I thought would enhance her best. Then I would get to know her with a glass of champagne(everyone opens up after a glass of champagne). After I know her personality then I pick her out a suit. Bikinis are an extension of ourselves, it is important to send the right message.

What are the essential accessories to wear with any swimsuit?

I love sandals and tunic top cover-ups...anything that makes you feel comfortable...for poolside...I say go all out...shoes, bags and accessories for the beach...focus on ease and bring a big bag for you magazine and towel.

Are there new elements of the Miami/South Beach culture you will focus on for next season's swimwear?

The three trends for me next season are:
1. Rockabilly debutante
2. Amber sultan batik and bohemian
3. Palm beach prepster
