Why Catwalk for the Cure?
To raise money and awareness for breast cancer research. Millions of people
had their lives touched in one way or another by breast cancer. This event
was created for those people who want to make a difference and are not quite
sure how they can contribute. Not everyone may be comfortable in
participating in a marathon or even a 5k race, but by hosting a social event
those people have another choice on how to get involved. All proceeds go
directly to the Susan G. Komen foundation, so donating to this event and
attending a fun-filled exciting evening is something you can truly feel good
about.
What will people find at this event?
There will be photo shoots throughout the night that will capture the ambiance
and give all guests a feeling of being involved in a very private session.
The talent of Scottsdale Models will be mingling with the guests before and
after the runway show. The best boutiques in the valley will be showcasing
their designer clothes on the runway...these boutiques currently include: SC
Moda, Bliss, Moody Blues, Brass Heart, Junky Trunks and Closet a la Mode.
More boutiques may be added to the show. I will also show a few pieces from
my designer line Jessica Kinni for Real Chic.
When did Catwalk for the Cure start?
About two years ago I created this event in honor of my Aunt Darcy Majors who
was battling breast cancer. I wanted to create something that she could be
proud of and that I could be passionate about. It made perfect sense! A
fashion show (as I am a clothing designer and model) to benefit the Susan G.
Komen foundation. Immediately after I came up with this concept, the
community wanted to get involved, Scottsdale Models has joined me in hosting
this event for the past two years and many valley boutiques, retailers and
restaurants are continuously joining the team.
How much money was raised at last year's Catwalk for the Cure?
More than $10K was raised in goods, services and donations from last year's Catwalk for the Cure and we are hoping for even bigger numbers this year.
What is your favorite part of Catwalk for the Cure?
The entire event because it is all so interactive, from the photo shoots to mingling with the models, the community really comes together to promote awareness and raise money for breast cancer research. However, if I had to pick just one thing , I would say the runway show. It is not only the culmination of the evening, but the culmination of months of hard work and planning by so many people.
The 2nd Annual "Catwalk for the Cure" with proceeds benefiting the Susan G.
Komen Breast Cancer Foundation will be held Saturday, October 14, 2006 at Myst
Nightclub. Doors to the event will open at 7:00pm, followed by a fashion show
at 8:30pm. Myst is located at 7340 East Shoeman Lane in Scottsdale, Arizona.
